Classes

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance which is why we recommend that all of our students start at an early age and stay with it for the duration of their training, regardless of the genre they wish to focus on. The fundamentals of ballet are necessary to create strong and dynamic dancers. The necessity of at least one weekly ballet class is strongly emphasized. This builds up to five classes per week for our serious competitive students and any dancers interested in developing their talent and performing skills.

We offer training in the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) Syllabus. This syllabus provides a nice foundation and promotes dedication and discipline.

In addition to our RAD Classes, we also include Open Classes starting with our pre-teen dancers ages 10 and up. These classes provide further education in ballet technique to expand the dancer's knowledge and repertoire outside that of the RAD Syllabus.

2 & 3 Year Olds

Ballet
We offer a unique 30-minute class for 2 & 3 year olds allowing them to use their imaginations and creativity in a fun yet structured environment. This class teaches the dancer to follow instructions independently from their parents. Our syllabus is geared specifically for the toddler dancer and is comprised of basic dance movement to fun music which helps build coordination and musicality.

Hip-hop
As with our 2 & 3 year old ballet class, this class teaches the dancer to follow instructions independently from their parents. Creative movement to upbeat popular music allows the children to express themselves in a fun environment while learning basic popular dance moves which help build coordination and musicality.

Our 2 & 3 year old dancers are included in our year-end recital performances. They learn a routine and perform in costume on stage in two of our four shows at the Terry Fox Theatre in June.

Tap

Tap develops excellent coordination, style and musicality. Dancers develop a repertoire that is both expressive and fun. The Al Gilbert graded system of dance is the basis of our classes. This technique is well-known worldwide. Yearly optional examinations are held each year by an Al Gilbert representative master in dance. October is the yearly deadline for examination registration.

Modern, Contemporary & Lyrical

Modern, Contemporary and Lyrical are all styles of dance with free and natural movements, making use of dimensions of space. Ballet is a requirement for students to enroll in any of these classes. Jazz tech and Acro are strongly recommended.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is the combination of singing, acting and dance giving students the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of learning routines from popular musicals. Our classes enable the dancers to expand their imaginations and learn improvisational acting skills both of which are incredible assets not only in the performing arts but life in general! It is recommended that students are enrolled in at least one jazz class to take musical theatre.

Hip-hop

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily and as children advance they are introduced to breaking, popping and locking.

Acro

Acro is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Students will also learn contortion, gymnastic and tumbling skills as they progress with their training. The strength and flexibility developed in our Acro classes complement all forms of dance which is why this genre is recommended for all dancers.

Jazz

Jazz (including Modern Jazz and Lyrical Jazz), is a commercial dance form usually performed to popular music. Emphasizing presentation, extension of the limbs, and isolations of the torso, jazz ranges from lyrical to highly athletic and even acrobatic styles. Jazz dance training gives all dancers a broader dynamic range of style and vocabulary of movement.
